ANDRE WALKER

A JOURNEY....

Andre Walker is a London-born, New York-raised Designer, Creative Director, Cultural Commentator, Stylist and Artist with a long career in creating luxury womenswear and menswear fashion, shoes, jewellery, accessories and furs alongside his painting and mixed media practice. Revered for his purist vision, Andre is renowned for crafting captivating and hypnotic dreamscapes through his mesmerizing sketches and watercolors. His artworks seamlessly blend with modernism, striking a balance between intensity and playfulness, boldness, and ethereality.

Having captured in his teenage years the interest of none other than the pioneering street photographer Bill Cunningham, Andre found himself featured in prominent publications like the New York Times and Details Magazine alongside Azzedine Alaia and Thierry Mugler. Subsequently, he became a regular subject of mention in the notorious Andy Warhol diaries.

Andre has been honored with the distinguished ANDAM prize, presented by the French Ministry of Culture. Additionally, he holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco.

Eschewing the typical seasonal fashion calendar, marked by its constant stream of collections and presentations, Andre has steadfastly adhered to a selective and authentic path in both his life and work. Frequently taking breaks to delve into other creative pursuits, this distinctive approach preserves an enchanting innocence, purity, and naivete. It has garnered the support of influential figures in the fashion industry, including Rei Kuwakubo, Kim Jones, and Virgil Abloh.

Notable collaborations include Comme des Garcons, Dover Street Market, Yves Salomon, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs.

Notable exhibitions include 'The Casual Pleasure of Disappointment' at Thaddaeus Ropac, a collaborative effort with Bjarne Melgaard and Rob Recine, and ‘Non Existant Patterns’ at le musee du Louvre in Paris sponsored by Pendleton Woolen Mills.

Andre has a fervour for the improvised, the historical, the ‘unseen’, for products and designs with heritage and provenance and has long been an advocate of sustainability in many aspects of his work and personal life.

Additionally to his recent appearances in Bottega Veneta‘s S/S 20 Campaign and also a 12 page ‘Portrait’ feature in fashion industry ‘bible’ TEN MEN Autumn Winter 2020 edition, Andre’s current projects also include collaborations with Off-White and Nordstroms Department stores with more in development.
